Vol. 382 No. 9

Written Answers. - Appointment of Women to State Bodies.

92.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of women who have been appointed to State boards or other such bodies directly under his control since he took office; and the percentage of the total such appointments this represents, as well as the total number of men appointed.

The Combat Poverty Agency has a membership of 10. Since I took office one member (a male) resigned and I appointed one woman to the agency. This resulted in the percentage of women appointed by the previous Government and serving on the board being increased from 40 per cent to 50 per cent. I did not appoint any men to the agency.

The National Pensions Boards has a membership of 20 and comprises representatives of four Government Departments and various interest groups with specialist knowledge and experience in the area of pensions. Members are appointed to the board on foot of a nomination of the relevant specialised interest group. Since I took office, I have approved the nominations of four men to replace four members (men) who resigned. The female membership of the board is 10 per cent.
