Vol. 382 No. 9

Written Answers. - Appointment of Women to State Bodies.

97.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of women who have been appointed to State boards or other such bodies directly under his control since he took office; and the percentage of the total such appointments this represents, as well as the total number of men appointed.

Since the Government took office on 10 March 1987 a total of fifty appointments have been made to State boards or other such bodies operating directly under my aegis.

Four of these appointments were of worker directors (all men) elected directly by the workforce in accordance with the provisions of the Worker Participation (State Enterprises) Act, 1977. Of the remaining 46 appointments, nine (or 19 per cent) were women while the other 37 were men.
