Vol. 382 No. 10

Written Answers. - Land Registry Delays.

66.

asked the Minister for Justice having regard to the fact that his Department freely admits delays in the land registry in applications for first registration and in section 49 applications, if his attention has been drawn to to the inordinate delay in applications for (a) land registry maps and (b) the issue of land certificates; and the proposals he has to improve matters.

I am informed by the Registrar of Titles that the average delay involved in the issue of copy maps is eight working days, which does not take into account time taken in transmission through the post both ways. Within this average, however, there can be longer delays in issuing some copy maps due to the fact that extensive reconstruction work may have to be carried out on existing maps (which apart from being on an old six inch scale can at times be in very poor condition).

I am also informed by the Registrar of Titles that the average delay in the issue of land certificates is 12 working days, which does not take into account time taken in transmission through the post both ways. Again, within this average some applications can take considerably longer to process, for example, where a transaction is pending on the folio which is the subject of the application.

In all the circumstances I do not consider that the time taken at present to issue copy maps and land certificates is inordinate.
