Vol. 382 No. 11

Written Answers. - Voluntary Work Scheme.

18.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will reform and extend the voluntary work scheme to provide opportunities for the unemployed and benefits to community organisations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The operation of the voluntary work scheme is at present being reviewed to see how it can be made more attractive to unemployed persons and how voluntary organisations can be encouraged to make greater use of it. I hope to bring forward proposals shortly which will increase the awareness of both the unemployed and voluntary organisations, thereby maximising the potential of this worth-while scheme.
