asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of long-term unemployed people who have been placed in employment as a result of the Jobsearch programme; the number who have commenced the special Jobsearch courses; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Up to 17 June 1988, some 7,700 people have been placed in employment as a result of the programme which began in April 1987. A total of 14,147 people have undertaken the special Jobsearch course and have been placed on various FÁS schemes or programmes.

Additional people who would have secured employment following participation in the FÁS schemes and programmes have not been included in the totals above.

The Jobsearch programme is concentrated on the long-term unemployed who have been six months or more on the Live Register.
