Vol. 382 No. 11

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

74.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the various schemes for residential and related qualifications contained in the letting priorities operated by local authorities in the context of accommodating applicants for housing; if he will make a statement on the major differences which exist between the various schemes operated by such local authorities; if he has any plans for bringing some degree of cohesion or integration into such schemes; and if he has proposals to bring any other changes into the present arrangements.

It is a matter for each housing authority to adopt a scheme of letting priorities in accordance with the requirements of section 60 of the Housing Act, 1966.

The Housing Bill, 1988, at present before the Oireachtas, provides a revised statutory basis for the assessment of housing needs and the adoption of schemes of letting priorities by housing authorities.
