Vol. 383 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Honours List.

2.

asked the Taoiseach if he has given any further consideration to the concept of an honours list, if he will give details of any further progress regarding the resolution of any obstacles preventing the introduction of such; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There have been no further developments since the Deputy last raised this matter on 29 June.

On that occasion the Taoiseach indicated that he would enter into some discussion with the various parties during the recess. I appreciate that the Taoiseach is indisposed at present but I wonder if the Tánaiste could give any information as to whether any discussions took place along those lines and whether any attention has been given to the resolution of the difficulties to which the Taoiseach referred on 29 June?

I am aware that the Taoiseach is very interested in this matter and I share his interest. When the Taoiseach is back in the House I am sure that this matter will be expedited. I agree that this is something to which we should give very deep consideration. It is a suggestion that has been there for years and we should come to grips with it.

Have we not enough registered monuments?

If the Deputy wishes to put a question, perhaps he would rise in his place and seek the approval of the Chair.

Deputy Durkan is trying, rightly, to be constructive.

Order. Question No. 3, please.

I would like to register my discontent with the proposal.
