Vol. 383 No. 3

Written Answers. - Harassment of Irish Passport Holders.

34.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Irish passport holders travelling abroad are being subjected to considerable harassment by British public and customs officials; if he has received any complaints in this regard; and if he will make representations to the British authorities on the matter.

The main focus of complaint for Irish citizens travelling to Britain is the operation of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA). I regularly receive complaints about the discriminatory and insensitive operation of this Act. Our concerns about aspects of the PTA have been, and will continue to be made clear to the British Government.
