Vol. 383 No. 3

Written Answers. - Employment Tax Yield.

70.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the benefit to the Exchequer of 600 average people moving off the live register and paying tax and PRSI at an average of £8,000 per annum.

The annual saving to the Exchequer in unemployment payments from a reduction of 600 people in the live register is estimated at £1.6 million. The additional income to the social insurance fund from their PRSI contributions would depend on the type of employment and the contribution class. The amount for which they would be liable as employees, assuming that all are Class A, would be approximately £0.26 million. The amount of the additional income tax yield would depend on the tax reliefs and allowances which are claimed in each case and would also be affected by any other income of the household.
