An application has been made to the EC Commission to increase the rate of the recoupment of expenditure under Ireland's disadvantaged areas schemes from 50 per cent to 75 per cent.
The level of EC recoupment under measures of this kind are at present under consideration in the context of the reform of the Structural Funds and it is not possible to predict at this stage when a decision in the matter is likely to be reached. When the decision is available the work of surveying all those areas proposed either for reclassification or for inclusion in our disadvantaged areas for the first time will be undertaken immediately.
