Vol. 383 No. 6

Written Answers. - Fish Farming Chemical Use.

142.

asked the Minister for the Marine if he will make a statement on the use of the chemical nuvan and such conditions as he attached in its use for fish farming.

Nuvan is used in salmon farming to kill sea-lice and this use has been notified to the National Drugs Advisory Board. Its use is governed under EC pesticide directives. Unlike many other insecticides it has a relatively low toxicity to fish, and at the recommended concentration it does not harm the salmon, nor wild fish.
