Written Answers. - Fishing Vessels Registration.

145.

asked the Minister for the Marine the number of applications by Irish nationals for registration of fishing vessels in 1987 and 1988; and the number of these granted in each year.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the number of applications by Irish nationals for registration of fishing vessels received in 1987 and 1988, to date, was 58 and 79 respectively. Of these, 54 registrations were effected in 1987 and 74 were effected in 1988, to date.

146.

asked the Minister for the Marine if he has received an application for registration of a Spanish fishing vessel lying at Galway Dock which had previously been seized for non-payment of harbour dues following arrest for illegal fishing in Irish waters.

Applications for registration of vessels are made to registrars of shipping who are Customs and Excise officials appointed for this purpose.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that no application for registration of the vessel in question has been received.
