Vol. 383 No. 6

Written Answers. - Building Societies' Conveyancing.

148.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make a statement on the reports in which he has allegedly permitted building societies to engage in conveyancing; the details of any such proposals and the action he intends to take in this matter.

The Deputy may be referring to my statement of 26 November 1987, in which I outlined my general proposals for the reform of building society legislation. Among these was a proposal to enable building societies to provide conveyancing services. Details of the proposal will be contained in the Building Societies Bill which is currently being drafted.
