To date in 1988, a total of 753 permanent appointments have been sanctioned by my Department of which 298 are in the nursing area. I am now in the process of authorising the filling of 850 posts which are currently filled on a temporary basis, in a permanent capacity. While the allocation of these posts between grades is initially a matter for the individual employing authorities concerned, I would expect that a substantial number of the appointments will be to nursing grades.
