Vol. 383 No. 6

Written Answers. - High Technology Hospital Treatments.

201.

asked the Minister for Health the level of agreement, if any, there is amongst EC member States in relation to access to certain high technology hospital treatments which are not available in Ireland.

There is already an established procedure for cases of the type referred to by the Deputy.

In accordance with European Community Regulations a person may be authorised to go to another member state of the EC and obtain there treatment which is considered by the local health board to be necessary and which is not available in this country. The cost of the treatment in such a case is borne by the health board.
