Vol. 383 No. 6

Written Answers. - Sheltered Employment.

202.

asked the Minister for Health if he has any proposals for sheltered employment for the disabled; and if he has sought any EC funding for same.

There is already provision for training and employment of the disabled in a wide range of workshops catering for specific categories such as the mentally handicapped and in general community workshops for persons with different types of handicaps. These facilities will continue to be developed according as available resources allow.

The major support from the European Community for the disabled is through the European Social Fund, which provides support for vocational training of disabled people who are capable of being trained for employment on the open market.
