Vol. 383 No. 6

Written Answers. - Hip Replacement Operation.

217.

asked the Minister for Health the length of time a person (details supplied) in Dublin has been waiting to be seen by an orthopaedic consultant in the Mater Hospital, Dublin 7; when the necessary hip replacement operation will take place; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would like to explain that the admission of a patient to hospital is a matter for the clinical decision of the consultant concerned and the hospital authority. I would suggest to the Deputy that the patient should return to her general practitioner who would be in the best position to clarify for the patient when she will be admitted and, if appropriate, to stress the urgency of the case to the consultant concerned.
