Vol. 383 No. 6

Written Answers. - Health Board Levies.

226.

asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the advice being issued by his Department to persons inquiring about levies being charged by health boards for renewals or applications for hospital services cards, EC forms and various appeals; and if the Government have given any assurances to the ICTU on this matter.

Persons who inquire concerning health boards charging for administrative services are informed that the genesis of charges referred to by the Deputy arose from decisions of individual boards to levy charges for specific administrative services. In addition they are also advised that I was unhappy in relation to certain respects of the charges and that on my direction my Department requested boards to suspend the imposition of charges.

No assurances were given to ICTU on this matter.
