My Department operate a youth service grant scheme to support the programmes and activities of voluntary youth organisations. Entry to the scheme is governed by a set of criteria agreed with member organisations of the National Youth Council of Ireland, and regularly updated. The scheme does not discriminate on the basis of sex. Under that scheme, however, grants have in 1988 been sancationed for the following voluntary youth organisations, which could be regarded as catering for women, parents and children:

The only organisation on the list submitted by the Deputy which received funding from my Department's national lottery allocation for youth is the Dublin Travellers' Education and Development Group. That group have in 1988 been allocated a special grant of £6,300 in respect of a youth project. There is no provision under my Department's lottery allocation for youth from which grants might be paid to local community development associations.
The capital grant scheme for the provision of recreational facilities operated by my Department is specifically designed to assist local initiatives by voluntary community organisations in the provision of recreational, leisure and community facilities.
Compilation of the details requested by the Deputy as it would relate to the 270 or so allocations made under the capital grant scheme would require an inordinate amount of staff time and I am not prepared to divert staff for that purpose from their essential duties associated with the administration of the scheme.
