Vol. 383 No. 6

Written Answers. - Ballyfermot, Dublin, School Staffing.

253.

asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the fact that Our Lady Queen of Angels Primary School, Drumfinn Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10, has the required number of pupils to warrant the retention of its full complement of staff, she will confirm that there will be no reduction in the number of teachers at the school or that no teacher will be put on the panel, notwithstanding that the present complement of pupils was reached shortly after the normal date for assessing the pupil teacher ratio; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The staffing arrangements in the school in question in the current year have been determined in accordance with the agreement between the Government and the INTO, worked out under the auspices of the central review committee for the Programme for National Recovery. The implementation of this agreement is the matter of on-going consultations between the Department and school interests in relation to developing schools and schools where maximum class sizes are exceeded.

Under these arrangements, the appointment of an additional teacher in the school in question may not be approved at present.
