Vol. 383 No. 6

Written Answers. - Examinations in Irish.

255.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the anxieties which have been expressed within Comhar na Múinteoirí Gaeilge about the manner in which the marks for the oral and written examinations in Irish are combined; and if she will make a statement on the procedures which are followed in this regard.

I am not aware of the existence of anxiety among members of Comhar na Múinteoirí Gaeilge on this issue.

Under the present system the marks awarded to candidates at the oral examination are combined with those awarded in the written examination to give an overall result which is expressed in terms of grades.

The senior cycle syllabus in Irish is currently under review by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment and all relevant issues, including the question of the oral examination will be considered in the course of that review.
