Vol. 383 No. 6

Written Answers. - Community Care.

46.

asked the Minister for Health if he has satisfied himself regarding the progress made in relation to the development of community care in the Southern Health Board region.

As the Deputy will be aware, it is my view that the thrust of health policy should be to maximise the potential of primary health care services within a broad national policy of health promotion. In this regard I have asked health boards to ensure that adequate resources are allocated from within their budgets to further these objectives. However, the allocation of resources to individual service areas is primarily a matter for the health boards in the light of the resources made available to them by my Department. In this instance, the development of community care is a matter for the Southern Health Board.
