Vol. 383 No. 8

Written Answers. - National Lottery Allocations.

140.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give details of national lottery funds allocated by his Department in Waterford city and county in (a) 1987 and (b) 1988; if he will specify the recipients and amounts in each instance; and if he will list (a) those applications which were not approved for grant aid and (b) those which are at present being proposed.

No national lottery moneys were allocated to my Department in 1987.

In 1988 a sum of £750,000 was made available to my Department from national lottery funds for once-off grants to projects being undertaken by voluntary organisations in the social services area. All grants under this scheme are allocated on a health board basis in consultation with the health boards. Details of the grants allocated in 1988 in Waterford city and county and of the applications which were not approved for funding are attached. The sum of £750,000 has now been fully allocated and no further applications are being processed.

In addition a sum of £100,000 was allocated to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for courses in Home Management and Personal Development. Some 5,000 families participated throughout the country. A report on these will be available shortly.
