Vol. 383 No. 8

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

205.

asked the Minister for Health the reason a medical card has been withdrawn from a person (details supplied) in Dublin 1 who has had a medical card for the past seven years and whose circumstances have not changed.

The question of determining eligibility for a medical card in individual cases is the responsibility of the chief executive officer of the appropriate health board. Accordingly in this instance, the Deputy's question has been referred to the chief executive officer, Eastern Health Board, with a request that he examine the matter and reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.

206.

asked the Minister for Health the outcome of the application of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 1 for a disabled persons maintenance allowance.

The payment of disabled person's maintenance allowance in any individual case is a matter for determination by the health board concerned, having regard to all the relevant circumstances in that case.

I had inquiries made of the Eastern Health Board in this case and have been informed that the board are currently awaiting information from the Department of Social Welfare regarding possible assistance being received by the applicant from that Department. Following receipt of this information a decision on the application will be made without delay.
