Vol. 383 No. 8

Written Answers. - Rathfarnham (Dublin) National School.

20.

asked the Minister for Education if she will give all necessary sanctions to the building of the required new extension to Rathfarnham parish national school in Dublin 14; the present position in this regard; and if she will respond to the points raised in correspondence dated 12 March 1987, 7 May 1987, 11 December 1987, 1 February 1988 and 8 March 1988 sent by the chairman of the board of management of Rathfarnham parish national school to her to which no substantive reply has yet been received.

I am aware of the situation in which the school authorities find themselves and I have instructed officials of my Department to enter into discussions with them at an early date with a view to arriving at a mutually satisfactory interim arrangement pending the final resolution of this case.

I would be happy if it eases the pressure on school finances to reach a settlement on the issues which have arisen in relation to payment of a local contribution for improvements and for some advance payment of grant in relation to outlay on professional planning fees.

The correspondence referred to by the Deputy was before me when he previously raised this matter by way of a question on 11 February, 1988, which I understood he was raising on behalf of the chairman and board of management of the school, I take it that he duly conveyed the terms of my reply to the school authorities.
