Vol. 383 No. 8

Written Answers. - Retention of Teacher at Dublin School.

50.

asked the Minister for Education whether she will sanction the retention of an existing teacher by Belgrove junior girls national school, Dublin 3, having regard to the special factors that apply in this case, including the fact that the class involved has already lost one teacher and that the numbers in this school have risen during the current academic year.

The staffing arrangements in the school in question in the current year have been determined in accordance with the agreement between the Government and the INTO, worked out under the auspices of the Central Review Committee for the Programme for National Recovery. The implementation of this agreement is the matter of on-going consultations between the Department and school interests in relation to developing schools and schools where maximum class sizes are exceeded.

Under these arrangements, the appointment of an additional teacher in the school in question may not be approved at present.
