Vol. 384 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Mayo Rivers.

56.

asked the Minister for Finance his views on the progress of drainage on the Lung River, County Mayo; and when it will be possible to have the scheduled work carried out on the Lack River which is causing extreme flooding in the area.

Works on the Lung River, which is the principal tributary in the Boyle Catchment, are 70 per cent complete. The remaining works, which include tributaries in County Mayo located mainly in the upper portion of the catchment, will continue for some time.

Presumbly the Deputy is referring also to the Black River, County Mayo. This river was considered for inclusion in the Boyle Drainage Scheme. However, I am advised that its inclusion could not be recommended on the grounds that the cost involved would be prohibitive in relation to the benefit to be derived.
