Vol. 384 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

110.

asked the Minister for Education the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork is no longer entitled to school transport facilities.

The child in question is eligible for free transport to Ballyhey national school, his nearest school. The question of concessionary fare-paying facilities to Newtownshandrum national school could be considered if application is made.

111.

asked the Minister for Education if she will provide adequate transport to Knocknagoshel national school, County Kerry for pupils who have been left without a service due to the amalgamation of Tooreenard national school with Knocknagoshel national school.

Tooreenard national school closed in the summer of 1988 and did not amalgamate with Knocknagoshel national school. The children referred to by the Deputy are ineligible for free transport to Knocknagoshel national school. Under the terms of the school transport scheme, they may only be allowed concessionary fare-paying facilities to that school provided spare accommodation is available on the vehicle after all eligible children have been catered for and provided, also that no extra State cost is involved.

The vehicle in question is catering for a capacity load at present.
