Vol. 384 No. 2

Written Answers. - Louth-Meath Garda Division.

11.

asked the Minister for Justice the vacancies at superintendent level in the Louth-Meath division which may be filled by promotion on a one in three ratio; whether he anticipates a change in allocation of divisional responsibilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

93.

asked the Minister for Justice the reason for the lack of promotional opportunities within the Louth-Meath Garda division with particular reference to the public announcement on the recent promotions; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 11 and 93 together.

Arising from the recent appointment by the Government of 19 superintendents, the Garda authorities are at present making arrangements for the filling of the three vacancies in that rank in the Louth-Meath Garda Division. These posts, which are the District Officer posts at Balbriggan, Kells and Dundalk, will be filled immediately. The filling of vacancies at sergeant level in the division will be considered in the light of the 50 promotions to be made to that rank from the competition currently in progress.

The Garda authorities inform me that there are no proposals for a change in the allocation of divisional responsibilities in Louth-Meath.
