The rationalisation of CIE services comes within the statutory mandate of the board to provide reasonable, efficient and economical transport services.
I am informed by CIE that the rationalisation of the services provided by the CIE group is an on-going process so as to ensure that all services are operated in accordance with customer demand and as cost effectively and efficiently as possible.
It is the responsibility of the board to manage the undertaking within the available resources including the annual Exchequer provision voted by Dáil Éireann.
