Vol. 384 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dublin-Manchester Air Route.

41.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the current number of flights each day from Dublin to Manchester by Aer Lingus which he has sanctioned; the way in which this compares with the same period in 1986; if he has satisfied himself that the fares charged are economically viable; and the way in which they compare with the fares charged for the same period in 1986.

I propose to circulate, in tabular form, the information sought by the Deputy with regard to the level of services and fares offered on the Dublin-Manchester route by Aer Lingus. I am satisfied that the fares on offer are justified by reference to the criteria laid down in the Air Transport Act, 1986 for the approval of tariffs and they have been approved by me on that basis.
