Vol. 384 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cot Deaths.

115.

asked the Minister for Health the number of cot deaths annually for the last three years; the amount of funding made available for promoting research into the causes and prevention of cot deaths; and whether he considers such funding to be adequate.

The total numbers of sudden infant deaths, cause unknown, for the three most recent years for which data is available are as follows: 1985-135; 1986-154; 1987-127.

The Health Research Board which is the appropriate statutory board in this context, is currently considering an application for the funding of a research proposal concerning the pathology of sudden infant death.
