Vol. 384 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Lottery Allocations.

116.

asked the Minister for Health if he will consider an application for grant aid from the proceeds of the national lottery from the North County Kildare branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association; if his attention has been drawn to the considerable outgoings of this organisation; if his attention has further been drawn to the tremendous work undertaken by the organisation; if he will approve an application for grant aid either in the current year or in 1989; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

117.

asked the Minister for Health if he will consider an application for grant aid from the proceeds of the national lottery from the Athy branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association, County Kildare; if his attention has been drawn to the considerable outgoings of this organisation; if his attention has further been drawn to the tremendous work undertaken by the organisation; and if he will approve an application for grant aid either in the current year or in 1989; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Question Nos. 116 and 117 together.

I am aware of the great work undertaken by the Irish Wheelchair Association and its branches. I have allocated £150,000 to the National Branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association from the 1987-1988 Health allocation of national lottery proceeds and will consider their position as sympathetically as possible when I am advised fully of my allocation of lottery proceeds for 1989. In these circumstances I see little prospect of giving further separate allocations to local branches of the organisation.
