Vol. 384 No. 5

Written Answers. - Debt Collection Measures.

75.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will make a statement on the recent Law Reform Commission Report on debt collection; if he has any proposals to implement the commission's recommendations relating to the sheriffs under existing law; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have just received this report and will not be in a position to comment on it until it has been examined in detail. However, it is already clear that implementation of the recommendations contained in the report would involve legislation. As I have pointed out on a number of occasions in this House, I could not in response to parliamentary questions indicate what proposals I might have for amending legislation. That is something which I would in the normal course announce only when I have obtained Government approval of my proposals.
