The formal contract with Marathon giving effect to the agreement of last July was signed by my predecessor on 22 November 1988. For the non-confidential details of the agreement I would refer the Deputy to the press statement issued on that occasion. A copy of the statement is available in the Dáil Office.
The contract will facilitate the further exploration of the acreage held by Marathon in the Irish offshore, with up to ten wells to be drilled and I hope that this will lead to further successful development in this area.
