Vol. 384 No. 7

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

59.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a house improvement grant totalling £2,433 was passed for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin after the work had been inspected and further work undertaken at considerable expense, at the request of his Department to bring the job up to an acceptable standard; that this grant was subsequently withdrawn; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

This application was approved on foot of a statement by the applicant that no previous grant had been paid in respect of the house during the preceeding ten years. The grant approved for repairs to the house had to be withdrawn as, notwithstanding the applicant's indications to the contrary a previous repairs grant had been paid in 1984. The grant of £2,000 approved for the extension is not affected and can be paid on satisfactory completion of that work.

60.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason a house improvement grant of only £5,974 was paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork when it had been confirmed that a grant totalling £7,974 in two parts, that is, £5,974 in respect of category (g) and £2,000 in respect of category (e) was payable for the works undertaken; and if he will make arrangements to pay the additional sum of £2,000 that is due and outstanding.

The grant paid in this case represented the maximum payable under the terms of the house improvement grants scheme. The basis on which the grants were determined was notified to the applicant on 15 August 1988.

61.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a water grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork, having regard to the fact that the application, under the Housing Acts, was passed by two inspectors from his Department.

The application in this case was for the provision of an extension. The applicant did not seek a water grant until after the termination of the house improvement grants scheme.
