Vol. 384 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Cork Disability Benefit Recipient.

140.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether a person (details supplied) in County Cork is in receipt of disability benefit; and if benefit has been correctly assessed in this case.

The person concerned was in receipt of disability benefit from 8 September 1988 to 20 October 1988 when he was certified fit to resume work.

An adult dependant allowance is only payable to a person where the dependant is not on social welfare payments or does not have earnings in excess of £50 a week. On information supplied in connection with the claim for disability benefit from the person concerned it appeared that his wife's weekly earnings were in excess of this figure. As a result he was entitled to £43.60 personal rate plus half rate child dependant allowance giving a total weekly rate of £54.20. The person concerned had previously been in receipt of unemployment assistance and he continued to claim assistance after his disability benefit claim ended. His entitlement to an adult dependant increase is being reviewed at present in connection with that claim. When this review is completed the question of his entitlement to an adult dependant allowance with his disability benefit claim will also be looked at again.
