The Broadcasting and Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1988 comes into force not later than 31 December 1988. There is no provision whereby, even if it was my wish, this date can be extended. The new legislation will be rigorously enforced from that date not only against operators of illegal stations but against those engaged in acts facilitating the operation of such stations in contravention of the Act.
In the meantime illegal operators are liable to action under the Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1926, at any time.
