Vol. 384 No. 8

Written Answers. - Teacher Redundancies.

268.

asked the Minister for Education whether the redundancy offer is being made in the same way to each of the sectors (a) secondary (b) vocational and (c) comprehensive; and whether it is equitable that each sector should have equal opportunity under this scheme to adjust the subject mix of its teaching staff.

The terms of the voluntary redundancy scheme are basically the same for the different categories of second level school, in that the scheme is applied where the number of teaching posts in excess of quota/normal teacher allocation cannot be eliminated by other means such as natural wastage, redeployment or career breaks.
