Vol. 384 No. 9

Written Answers. - Dáil Boundary Changes.

21.

asked the Minister for the Environment the proposals, if any, he has following the publication of the Electoral Commission's report on Dáil boundary changes to invite submissions, observations or alternative proposals as indicated by him recently in Dáil Éireann; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

32.

asked the Minister for the Environment if the Government have yet considered the report of the Dáil Constituency Commission which was published on 8 November 1988; if the Government have rejected the recommendations of the commission; if it is intended to introduce legislation to alter Dáil constituencies; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 21 and 32 together.

On 8 November I indicated that the report of the Dáil Constituency Commission was being published with a view to giving political parties, interested parties outside the House and the general public an opportunity of considering the report.

It is not my intention to issue a formal invitation for submissions, observations or alternative proposals but I will, of course, be happy to consider any submissions which may be made as part of my consideration of the report.
