Vol. 384 No. 9

Written Answers. - Waterford Borough Boundary.

43.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has reviewed the proposals of Waterford Corporation for the extension of the borough boundary on the east side of the River Suir adjacent to Waterford city; the conclusions which he has drawn regarding same; an if he will make a statement on the matter.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the application to extend the Waterford city boundary into County Kilkenny which was received from Waterford Corporation in May 1979. Very little progress has been made on this application as I understand that Kilkenny County Council are strongly opposed to it and the approach of successive Ministers has been that some measure of agreement between the local authorities affected is necessary if the extension is to go ahead. It is clear that if it were to proceed there would be major financial and other implications for both authorities and it would be desirable that further efforts be made to negotiate an agreed approach.
