Vol. 384 No. 9

Written Answers. - Rate Relief Support Grant.

50.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the rates relief support grant allocation for each local authority for 1989; the allocation for 1988; the difference in the case of each local authority in percentage terms; and if he will make a statement regarding the impact on jobs and services he expects as a result of any reduction.

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 45 of 19 October 1988, in particular note 3 to that reply.

I am satisfied that the 1989 rate support grant funding provided will allow local authorities to adopt estimates and provide for a reasonable level of services in 1989. In addition, Government initiatives such as the voluntary redundancy scheme, early retirement package and substantially increased county road strengthening allocations as well as the continuing low levels of inflation and interest rates will also help to safeguard local authority employment in 1989.
