Vol. 384 No. 9

Written Answers. - Attack on Prisoner.

68.

asked the Minister for Justice if a prisoner (details supplied) was stabbed with a syringe in St. Patrick's Institution, Dublin; if he has received all appropriate medical treatment and tests; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

On 15 November 1988 the offender in question alleged to a senior officer that, ten day previously, while with a group of offenders, he felt what might have been a pinprick and that he had reason to believe that a syringe might have been involved. Inquiries into the allegations have been made by the authorities of the institution but it has not, so far, been established what precisely occurred. The offender, at his request, has had a medical test and he is receiving appropriate care.
