Vol. 384 No. 9

Written Answers. - Westport, Mayo, School Accommodation.

108.

asked the Minister for Education if any application has been received for provision of an extra room at Canaholly National School, Westport, County Mayo; if grant assistance will be given for this; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

An inquiry was received in my Department about the provision of an extra room at Canaholly national school, County Mayo, to serve, I understand, as a general purposes area for the school and as a meeting place for the local community. As the school in question is a two-teacher one, with two classrooms, grant assistance could not be afforded. My Department indicated that it would have no objection to the erection of an additional room at local expense, and was prepared to offer any technical assistance which might be sought from its local professional advisers.
