Vol. 385 No. 1

Written Answers. - Islandbridge (Dublin) Football Club.

44.

asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there are moves to have Islandbridge football club cede a pitch which they have on lease from the Office of Public Works at Islandbridge, Dublin 8; that there have been indirect indications that the Office of Public Works want their two changing facilities to be removed from the pitch; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that these moves would be disruptive to the Islandbridge community; and in view of the circumstances, if he will meet a deputation from Islandbridge football club to discuss the matter before any final decisions are taken.

Some years ago the Commissioners of Public Works permitted the local community to use an area beside the War Memorial Park in the Inchicore North Estate as a football pitch. This permission was given as a temporary measure and no area was ever granted.

The pitch is located beside the main entrance avenue to the War Memorial Gardens which have recently been restored. The Office of Public Works intend to undertake further landscaping improvements in this general area and they recently explained their ideas in broad outline at a meeting with representatives of the local community who did not express any objection to them. When the proposals are further developed the Office of Public Works will again discuss them with representatives of the Islandbridge community. In the meantime, the question of removing the changing facilities does not arise and no useful purpose would be served by my meeting a deputation from the Islandbridge Football Club.
