asked the Minister for Defence the Government funds allocated to the Red Cross in each of the last four years; and the proposed allocation for 1989.

, Limerick West): The following amounts were provided in the Vote for Defence in respect of grant-in-aid of the Irish Red Cross Society in the years 1985 — 1988: 1985, £370,000; 1986, £340,000; 1987, £375,000; 1988, £300,000.

The Government decided to fund this service in 1989 from the national lottery provision in the Vote for the Office of the Minister for Finance. The 1989 allocation is £320,000.
