Vol. 385 No. 1

Written Answers. - Clifden (Galway) Sports Hall.

77.

asked the Minister for Education the estimated cost of constructing a sports hall at the Community School, Clifden, Connemara, County Galway; and the percentage of the total cost which the school authorities themselves will have to provide.

The estimated cost of providing the sports hall for which tenders were received in 1986 including the cost of further professional fees and of furniture and equipment would fall within the approximate price range £380,000 to £430,000 depending on the precise location of the hall on the school site and on the final schedule of reductions if any in the detailed specification. A local contribution would only apply in respect of the sports hall if it proceeds on the basis of its designation as a local sports centre and not as part of the ordinary second level capital programme for school buildings. The local contribution would be 30 per cent as already communicated to the Deputy in reply to his question on 17 November last.
