*A network of teacher centres has been established throughout the country for the professional use of primary and post-primary teachers. The major functions of a centre are to provide a meeting place for teachers to enable them to discuss problems relating to schoolwork, to act as a resource centre to enable teachers to prepare and construct equipment and materials for use in schools, to arrange courses on curriculum development, and to facilitate the display of pupils' and teachers' work and publishers' exhibitions of school textbooks. Accordingly, the centres have a major role to play in the inservice training of teachers.
A sum of approximately £300,000 is being provided for inservice courses for post-primary teachers in 1989. The money will be provided under Vote 29 Second Level Education, Subhead J.
