Vol. 385 No. 2

Written Answers. - European Co-ordination Committee for Social Housing.

158.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the formation of the European Co-ordination Committee for Social Housing, Comité Européen de Coordination de l'Habitat Social — CECODHAS, by the main national and regional non-profit and co-operative, social housing representatives and promotional bodies in the member states of the EC; and in view of the limited resources available to the two relevant bodies in Ireland, the Housing Centre and the National Association of Building Co-operatives (NABCo) by comparison with the more developed organisations of a similar nature in other member countries, if he will review the amount of grant-in-aid paid to the Irish bodies in order that they can ensure continued Irish representation in CECODHAS.

I am aware of the formation of CECODHAS. The amount of grant provided to bodies such as the Housing Centre and NABCo is reviewed each year, having regard to the competing demands of voluntary housing organisations and the funds provided in the Department's estimate for the purpose, I will take account of the need for representation on CECODHAS for 1989 in that review.
