Vol. 385 No. 2

Written Answers. - Civilian Operative.

205.

asked the Minister for Defence if a person (details supplied) in County Kildare is working a 42½ hour week as a civilian operative in a military establishment; if he is being paid accordingly; if other operatives in similar establishments in the Dublin area are receiving the same rate of pay for the same hours of work; if there are meal allowances in all cases; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Limerick West): Civilians employed as telephonists by my Department with units of the Permanent Defence Force are paid on the basis of a gross working week of 43½ hours. Telephonists in the Dublin area have a net working week of 38? hours and the employee referred to by the Deputy has one of 37½ hours.

Meal allowances are not payable to telephonists. As, however, those in the Dublin area work during meal times, they are paid at overtime rates in respect of the time involved.
